Welcome to Massimo Mila Refuge in the heart of Gran Paradiso National Park
The refuge was opened on 24th May 2002,in the ex-building built in the 50s by the Electric Factory of Turin for its workers there. It is at 1583m next to the artificial lake of Ceresole Reale, in the Upper Orco Valley.
It has got 5 rooms and 1 big one (25 beds), a big bar-restaurant living, a comfortable fireplace room, a reading corner and an external huge field for any activities.
Massimo Mila Refuge is a real reference for the mountains keeners that are looking for the “real” mountain. It is OK as start point for excursions in the Park and in the near valleys. It is also suitable for people that love outdoor sports or that are looking only a relaxing place in the nature.
The restaurant offers typical mountain dishes, organizes lunches and dinners, tastings, and you can book for groups and parties. Paolo Mussino, the chef, uses the products of the “Paniere della Provincia di Torino”. In Autumn the Refuge promotes the traditional “Polenta Festival” .
The Refuge is also centre of cultural activities for students and adults.
Since Summer 2010 there has been being the PalaMila, a frame for events, shows, concerts of Gran Paradiso Festival. It was projected by the architect Antonio Besso Marcheis and realized with the financial help of Regione Piemonte, Provincia di Torino and Fondazione Crt.

Massimo Mila
A great Italian Man
He was born in Turin on 14th August 1910. He attends “Massimo D’Azeglio” Liceo specializing in classical studies, where Augusto Monti is his teacher. At that time Cesare Pavese, Leone Ginzburg and Norberto Bobbio are students at “D’Azeglio” too. He teaches Latin to Giulio Einaudi, and he introduces him into the “brotherhood” of the ex-students of “D’Azeglio” (as Mila calls it). In it there are “Ces” or “Paves” or the “Barone” as Cesare Pavese;”Agenzia Tass” or “the beared Lion of Monti Urali”, that’s Leone Ginzburg, born in Russia; “Bindi” that’s Norberto Bobbio, and then also Vittorio Foà, Giulio Carlo Argan, Ludovico Geymonat, a young teacher, Franco Antonicelli and others.
